Bonilla-Scotten currently serves as the facilitator for her school’s Equity Team,a member of the Lawrence Public Library board of trustees, and recently co-founded “Write Here” a Pen Pal group for BIPOC kids. She focuses her work on curating a collection of books reflective of her students’ diverse identities, stories, and perspectives, while introducing them to stories by #ownvoices author's whose perspective they may not otherwise hear. A public educator committed to equity in education with 15 glorious years of advocating for and learning from the scholars in the community of Lawrence, Kansas, currently serving as the librarian at Billy Mills Middle School.
